The word oppression can mean so many things. This weekend, we were having a conversation about oppression and for the life of me I could not think what that word meant for me especially when it is racialized and that's part of the problem with oppression. We, society, and maybe I should just transition to I..I cannot always tangibly touch these concepts and for me it is hard to engage something that is not concrete.
However, as I usually do, I thought about this concept and connected it to a different idea. What I came up with is that part of oppression is taking ownership for things that are not our fault and not owning up to our own strength because we feel powerless to change the circumstances or situations that negatively impact us.
